An arrogant landlord who grew up with immense wealth and power, takes controlling others for granted, and extremely loathes having his possessions taken away. He feels a sense of superiority and satisfaction when his status is acknowledged and treated with respect, but will cruelly retaliate if his relationship with Eleanor is provoked or his authority is ignored.
